Port Royal's Sutcliffe a Winner

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC -- Port Royal Racquet Club pro Mike Sutcliffe was a prize-money finalist in the Professional Tennis Registry's $25,000 International Championships, held February 17-23 at Van der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club. Sutcliffe teamed with Juan Gamboa of Concord, CA to place second in the Men's Open Doubles.

In the first round of the championships, which drew players from around the world, unseeded Sutcliffe/Gamboa defeated Andrew Chmura of Pittsfield, MA and Errol Nattrass of Burlington, VT. In the quarterfinals, they won over Jonah Flegelman and Lance Lee of Philadelphia PA. In the semis, they defeated #2 seeds Mirko Jovanovic and Carlos Bracho of Hilton Head Island. However, Sutcliffe and Gamboa lost in the finals to #1-seeded Californians Julien Heine of Laguna Niguel and Zbyned Mlynarik of Chatsworth.
